2007-2008 Brochure
Purpose
The purpose of Leadership Rowlett is to identify and motivate emerging civic and business leaders, and to develop their potential for community service by exposing them to the realities and opportunities of our community.
Objectives
Leadership Rowlett is an educational program with the following objectives:
-
To inform participants about Rowlett’s history, government, economy,
social issues, needs, opportunities, and the existing processes for dealing with them.
-
To introduce the participants to, and establish dialogue with, each other and current Rowlett leaders.
-
To encourage participants to become actively involved in the growth and betterment of Rowlett.
Program
Leadership Rowlett begins in September and continues to meet at least once a month through May. Participants will be challenged to increase their leadership skills and expand their horizons as they identify and address community issues and needs.
Curriculum
Leadership Rowlett offers new learning opportunities in an atmosphere that stimulates participants to work together while developing personal, organizational and community leadership skills.
The curriculum combines lectures, dialogue and interaction. Subjects are designed to encompass leadership techniques and knowledge of the community.
The class begins with an exciting two-day retreat devoted to team bonding, problem solving, group cooperation and character building. This session includes a “ropes” challenge, as well as low element challenges. The retreat is mandatory.
Class sessions begin in September and meet at least once a month. Classes consist of overviews of city, county and school operations along with a visit to each. Sessions focus on major areas of community concern.
The culmination of the course is a trip to Austin in the spring. The class will meet with key leaders and government officials while touring the State Capital.
A graduation ceremony will be held at the Chamber’s Annual Awards Banquet in April where Certificates of Completion will be presented to graduates.
Participants
Anyone living and/or working within the City of Rowlett is eligible. The make-up of each Leadership Class is carefully considered to ensure representation of a variety of professional, civic, and demographic backgrounds.
